Knights of the Ruby Hatpin

I’m finally ready to reveal more secrets about the gender-bending new character I introduced in last week’s blog post, He is a Woman, but She is Also a Man.

This character is part of a dream project I’ve been developing for a while and am finally ready to share with the world!
Swapping genders, identities and faces, my character travels throughout the war-torn world of the late 1700s. The calls of women in distress bring her from the Napoleonic battlefields of Europe and Africa to revolutionary America. Although often disguised as a man, she uses distinctly feminine channels to transmit her coded communications. Her secret international network consists of unassuming haberdashery shops placed in strategic hotspots. Her male adversaries are unlikely to detect hidden messages in children’s toys, ladies’ jewelry, ornate lace designs, embroidered handkerchiefs, perfume bottles, and bonnet ribbons. Her unique skills with both the rapier and the sewing needle make her exceptionally qualified for her chosen mission in life – to save, avenge and empower women.

Take a close look at the item the dying soldier is handing to her on the battlefield. It’s a key object in this scene, which will be explained in the next blog post.
