Henrietta, the twin sister of my disfigured phantom pilot is one of the main characters in Phantoms of Vendôme.
I see her a bit like a time-traveling version of Suki, from my favorite animated series Avatar: the Last Airbender. Suki famously once said: “I am a warrior, but I’m a girl too”.

Henrietta is ahead of her time, carving her own space in the man’s world of 1920s Europe. A huge fan of detective novels, she envisions her future as a writer and the head of a detective agency practicing unconventional methods of investigation. Brisk, opinionated, scandalously masculine in her behavior, Henrietta uses taunting and provocation as weapons against a prejudiced society.
But unbeknownst even to herself, she has a romantic side. Her unconventional way of thinking and feeling helps her to find deep affection and understanding in an unexpected place.
In creating Henrietta’s wardrobe, I aimed to blend the two sides of her colorful personality and give it an individual twist.
Because Henrietta is every bit a warrior … but she’s a girl too.
