This is the third in a series of posts dedicated to Phantoms of Vendôme – a first introduction to the members of Richard’s underground army of “Apollo’s Wolves”. The pilots and mechanics of Richard’s once-famous and unstoppable “Wolf Flight”, now fallen and disgraced alongside their flight leader, continue fighting to restore their military honor and expose the true enemies of France.

Young apprentice aviation mechanic Pippin grew up in a Gascon bakery run by her mother. Her mother’s specialty were delicious honey spit cakes, known as gateau à la broche. Oozing powdered sugar, orange liquor, clover honey, and cinnamon, they were the best the small village could offer to the world.

The cakes were served sizzling on a red hot metal spit. Pippin herself refined the recipe to perfection and became the pride of the village. The best of the best Gascon musketeers gathered in her village for the annual festival duels just to taste the cakes made by Pippin’s mother.

The War took Pippin’s beauty, her honor, and her happiness. All she had left in life were the delightful spit cakes of her childhood.

Deeply PTSD’d and paranoid, she discovered another vital function for her favorite spits. The cakes and the spits they were served on became her protection, her swords, and her way of communicating with the world.

Who would attack a little Gascon girl selling homemade cakes on the streets of Paris? Little did they know that letting her approach with her fragrant cakes could cost lives and spread unspeakable horror. Her unique three-cake fighting technique would soon make Paris tremble with abject terror …
