If you’ve been following my updates, you may know I’m in Egypt right now, working at a real archaeological dig. As a lot of the story and themes of Napoleon’s Starship were inspired by my experiences in Egypt, I think it’s time to share a glimpse of what sort of work I’m actually doing out here!

Join me in a behind-the-scenes glimpse of an active archaeological site where we’re reconstructing the decoration of a beautiful two-and-a-half-thousand-year-old tomb. This morning, the team and I were busy solving the mystery of a phantom hound based on little more than a bit of swirly tail. In the video below, I’ll initiate you into the secrets of ancient Egyptian grid systems, and the joys of using way too many mathematical equations to find a fragment’s lost original spot in the tomb. Brilliant Egyptian conservators Ali Hassan Ibrahim and Mohamed Badawy will share some of their special techniques, inspired by ancient Egyptian methods and materials, and reveal how they plan to restore the fragment to its rightful place.
Meanwhile, the Napoleon’s Starship Kickstarter is winding down with alarming speed. We are at 78% with just 11 days to go! We’ve come so far already and only $895 will get us to our goal. It’s an all-or-nothing campaign so if we don’t make 100% by August 22nd, we get NOTHING and all our backers won’t get their rewards. At this crucial stage every dollar really does count. This is my debut graphic novel as a writer/illustrator and the wonderful team at Wayward Raven Media are taking a big chance on this project because we all believe in its message – we can’t build a new future by pillaging and destroying the treasures of the past.
This is the moment to answer our call to arms and join the revolution. Save the ancient treasures of planet Thror from Napoleon’s clutches!
